"A tall, upright tree trunk, a flower soul with a special meaning. Flowers usually reach the peak of life when in full bloom, but their fragrance is also most enchanting when they are just beginning to open - to make jasmine tea, only the smiling flowers are picked. But the flowers of this sister tree have to wait until they fall to the ground, and see them scatter into the mud, before they can radiate the splendor of life. Or perhaps the crystals covering the ground are long-hanging tears, kissing and lingering in their farewell to the earth."
——〈Loose Incense〉
★Collection of 40 essays by Hai Fan and sharing of three creative threads
★ Sincerely recommended by Gao Jiaqian, Associate Professor of the Department of Chinese at National Taiwan University
★Includes old photos of Singapore and Malaysia
This book is divided into three volumes. Volume 1, "Remembering," describes the warm family life, recalls childhood and family affection, and remembers respected predecessors and old friends. The emotions are deep and sincere.
The second collection, "Falling Fragrance," expresses feelings for flowers, plants, and trees, narrating the trajectory of the symbiosis between plants and people, while expressing love and care for the land.
The third volume, "Seeing," explores historical sites across the country, revitalizing those lost in the folds of history. This volume also includes three pieces in which Hai Fan reflects on his creative journey.
Hai Fan uses simple and elegant words to review the people, events and scenery that he cherishes, and the memories are placed in a safe place under the influence of time, never to be lost or forgotten.
Gao Jiaqian's special article recommendation——
"'Falling Fragrance' unfurls silhouettes of the Malayan Communist Party's mountains and forests, the vegetation ecology of southern China, and the literary trajectory of the island and the peninsula. Like fallen flowers, they impart fragrance, transforming into spring mud, nourishing Hai Fan's experiences of life in both places. This is also a unique gift from Chinese writing to the island nation and the peninsula."

A Note
Concern is trouble, but also abundance.
A child's concern—both responsibility and love. A father transformed into a talisman. A father-in-law carved by time, a mountain village, my childhood. Only then did I see the island, the tree, and the words on the sickbed. Cardamom flowers—not family, but more than family—Remembering my old friend Luo Yanping. Iron spears—The poet galloping under the banner. The faint, yet steady silhouette—Li Jinzong's impression of Mr. Ying and his "uninvited guest."
Girls Don't Cry
Collection 2: Falling Incense
For all living beings, falling is eternal.
Ai Sang Cassava reads the ancient tree forest fire and seeks the way to the "fire golden girl"
I can't find that photo. Four posts on the railway - Memories after two years of silence. Blessings - from Mother Earth. Homecoming for a reunion. Names - the story of time. Fujian New Year proverbs. Guarding a mountain's green shade. Encountering wild vegetables with falling fragrance. A breadfruit tree outside the window. The past permeates the rest of my life. Torrential rain and barren mountains. Screenshots of life - agarwood, ivory, "unforgettable" fish, and "Tongkat Ali."
Volume 3 Seeing
The scenery passing by.
Wishing you a beautiful tomorrow, bathed in the spring breeze, a vast expanse of yellow. When history and the moment meet—Rivers, Sago Trees, and Melanau Caves.
