Cai Xiaoling's collection of essays is divided into five volumes: Volume 1 "The Hole", Volume 2 "The Cat is Missing", Volume 3 "It Was Tender at First", Volume 4 "Writing Letters at San Francisco Coffee", and Volume 5 "The Balcony", with a total of 39 essays.

Women who live alone after the age of 30,
Buying a house is not about starting a family.
She couldn't help but wonder why her life was different from others?
But what does a standard life look like?

Reading Xiaoling's writing is like watching a cat lying in the sunlight, carefully combing its fur. That is the soft and beautiful prose in my mind. -- Gong Wanhui (Malaysian Chinese writer)

"I wish my first collection of essays could be written like this." This is what popped into my mind after reading half of "The Hole." The more I read, the more I envy it. -- Liang Jingfen (Malaysian Chinese writer)

Perhaps "The Hole" reads gray, and perhaps the image of the hole may scare people, but the more you read this collection of essays, you will find that Xiaoling is actually bright and clear. --Nut Xiaosheng (Malaysian Chinese writer)

Xiaoling excels at switching the narrative lens arbitrarily as the plot progresses, allowing the plot to follow different paths, sometimes self-portraits, sometimes others' photos, sometimes distant shots, sometimes empty shots, breaking away from the reader's preconceptions. -- Yang Liya (Taiwanese writer)
