Mei Shuzhen's Selected Works 01: Mei Poetry

A collection of Mei Shuzhen's poems and poetic views spanning sixty years.

This book is a collection of new poems and essays on poetry by veteran Malaysian writer Mei Shuzhen, and is also the first in the "Selected Works of Mei Shuzhen" series.

The book is divided into three volumes. Volume 1, "The Beginning of the Search for Poetry," contains twenty poems written by Mei Shuzhen between 1968 and 1978.

The second collection, "Searching for Poems in the Dream of the Red Chamber," contains fifty-three articles that discuss the poems in the classic Chinese novel "Dream of the Red Chamber" in the form of prose.

Collection 3, “Old Stories of My City”, contains 12 new poems, which were written by Mei Shuzhen after she returned to her hometown of Penang in 2007. She used poetry to create an image of the old city of Penang.

Mei Shuzhen

Born in Penang in 1949, his ancestral home is Taishan, Guangdong.
He graduated from the Department of Commerce of Tunku Abdul Rahman College in Kuala Lumpur in 1974 and worked as an accountant and company secretary.
In addition to writing poetry, he also writes novels, essays, miscellaneous articles and translations.
He has been writing continuously since 1966 and has published over three million words. From 2015 to 2022, he published a novel serialized in Guangming Daily. From 1983 to 1985, he served as editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine Jiao Feng.
He has written the poetry collection "Mei Poetry" (1972), the prose collection "Human World" (1985) and "Past and Present" (2021), and co-translated with Mu Lingnu the poetry collection "Mekong River" (1973) by Malay poet Radif, and the collection "Selected Essays of Rhinoceros" (1976).
