I hope we live long enough to be human.
Live in the world and prove it yourself
The world is wrong
Rather than the fragility of the mind
——〈Part〉

Yan Jiaqi's third poetry collection contains ninety-two poems.

The poet sketches in plain language in the kitchen, roasting an orange on a winter night, brewing a pot of Yirgacheffe on a summer day, and fermenting lychee wine in a sealed glass bottle. On the way to the empty house, he approaches an open-air barbershop on the street, enters the watchmaker's universe, and grins in the inertia of the day.

My dear, do you know that there is a world that has repeatedly prevented us from becoming a part of you? This world uses blood to screen for the elements of love. It allows us to give up ourselves but does not allow us to be ordinary people. - "Prehistoric Period"

The poet incorporates scenes such as gender, marriage equality, and supporting Hong Kong into his poems, but more poems focus on issues such as the elderly, agriculture, nature, and social minorities, trying to outline and copy various life patterns, making the layout of the poems like a camera lens, recording the multi-faceted reality.

The shadow is very obedient and presses the fingerprint, willing to be invisible in a piece of paper. We are the real newcomers who were stitched back together by luck - "Newcomers"

Yan Jiaqi

A native of Dapi Township, Yunlin County, I currently live in Muzha, Taipei. I majored in geography in college and creative writing in graduate school. I'm a cat lover and sports enthusiast, and I've recently become fascinated with mountaineering. When I'm not shoveling sand, I hope to hike as much as possible.

His poems have been included in numerous annual poetry anthologies and have received publishing grants from the Yunlin County Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Taipei City Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the National Arts Council. He has published the poetry collection "Noon in the Wasteland" and was shortlisted for the 2019 Taiwan Literature Awards Gold Medal for his work "Group B" (Black Eyes Publishing).
