★ A story about junk food becoming haute cuisine, a novel about "eating junk".
★ A novel written by a PhD in virology and a well-known lyricist. The story starts with the theme of food waste and explores the issue of human nature.
★ Well-known lyricist Xiaohan published his novel in Taiwan for the first time. Xiaohan has written popular songs such as Eason Chan's "The Lonely Patient", JJ Lin's "The Great Insignificance", Tanya Chua's "Darwin", Jolin Tsai's "I", Sandy Lam's "Paper Plane", Fiona Sit's "Better Me", Hong Peiyu's "Love on Tiptoe", Stefanie Sun's "Rainy Day", etc. He has won the Singapore Golden Melody Award for Best Lyricist seven times and was nominated for the Taiwan Golden Melody Award for Best Lyricist four times.

The world discards over 1.3 billion tons of food annually. A significant percentage of this food is in edible condition. The wealthier and more developed the country, the worse the situation. Wasteful consumption has become a daily routine for consumers and food service operators alike, like a plague. Ugly, off-cuts, substandard food, improperly stored, and ingredients whose prices plummet due to overproduction all end up in landfills.

It is heartbreaking that while the world wastes this food, over 800 million people still go hungry every day.

Restaurants transforming leftover ingredients, ugly food, and scraps into exquisite meals are quietly popping up in major cities. These chefs, who respect the environment, minimize waste, and embrace a nonjudgmental approach, are among the world's best. "The Waste Eaters" tells the story of one such boutique restaurant, specializing in recycling "junk" food into delicious cuisine. By telling the story of a restaurateur from a broken family, rising to maturity and success, the book explores and satirizes modern attitudes toward food, family, love, and "values."

Should everything in life be firsthand, fresh, and perfect, worthy of praise, pampering, and worship? Or is it that when we can't have it, picking up charity or begging is tantamount to compromise? Should what others give or ask for be unworthy of appreciation?
