★ A Taiwanese woman's semi-baked philosophy in Singapore. Writing prose as a poet, her words inevitably contain many stunning, radiant, and piercing imagery and metaphors, sometimes resembling film montages, sometimes with the allure of abstract painting. — Chen Rongbin (Assistant Professor, Master of Translation Program, National Taiwan University)
Counting the years, I find countless similar half-ripe states in my life: alienation from the environment, the collision and surrender to the adult world, precocious yet slow-growing youth, the contemplation and disillusionment of love, the groping at the boundaries, the metabolism of responsibilities, the twists and turns of emotions, the battle and compromise of self-confidence, the cultural shock between my hometown and a foreign land... Because of writing, there is a barrier like an eggshell between me and the world; this barrier is thin and fragile, but it is remarkably tough when faced with the violent compression of external forces. - Sun Yifeng
This book contains a total of 83 essays by Sun Yifeng.
Her poetic brushstrokes and montage-style writing techniques weave together her personal experiences across regions and cultures.
Between expressing oneself and narrating others, traveling back and forth between hometown and foreign land,
It is a snapshot of life, urban observation and taste nostalgia written by a delicate poetic heart.
