This book is divided into five volumes, containing 87 articles, covering Chinese education, local stories, civil society, politics and debate.
With a profound historical background and a compassionate heart, the author has spent more than twenty years writing about his concerns for his country and his cultural observations. This is a work that is broad-minded, concise, and full of accumulation of knowledge.

"People say it takes ten years to sharpen a sword. Thinking about it this way, I should have sharpened two swords! Both left and right, with a gentle sword energy. Over the past twenty years, writing columns has become a part of my daily life, and because of writing columns, it has become a life attitude. Columns such as Marginal Commentary are the stage for me to sharpen my sword, and also the venue for me to "find topics" in my academic research and teaching. I have been writing from my youth to middle age, and I am grateful for the columns I have written for newspapers. But I am ultimately marginal." - An Huanran
