"Rubber Forest Documentary: Ice Valley Autobiography" begins with "my father and mother" and the depths of the rubber forest, and ends with grief and leaving the oak forest. It is written from the eve of the Pacific War to the eve of the Thatched Crop Incident, spanning forty-four years.
The author describes his youth spent migrating from one rubber plantation to another, and his quarter-century career managing it. It was a turbulent era, when "towns lacked character and the countryside was still undeveloped." The glimpses of difficult life in the book serve as both personal micro-histories and the collective memory of many—"everyone reaching out their tentacles of hope toward the future."
The author also extended his tentacles to literature, seeking spiritual comfort, and wrote down his literary memories of interacting with literary friends and his pursuit of creation.
Binggu describes himself: "I have spent most of my life as a farmer wandering around, and my literary career has followed my wanderings."
Professor Zhang Jinzhong wrote a preface recommending the book: "Looking back on the past, only by writing, only by writing, can we face the memory of the autobiographical subject and recall the scars caused by the big history behind the small history.
