Mei Shuzhen's Selected Works 04: No Focus

Starting from 2006, Mei Shuzhen wrote a "Thousand Words Article" every month in Malaysia's first current affairs magazine "Asian Eye" until the magazine ceased publication in 2011. This book is a collection of articles in that column, which is also the origin of the title.

Although I was acting for expediency at the time and had no focus, writing whatever came to my mind and wherever I thought of, after compiling it, I found that the original ideas were passed down from generation to generation, and the focus of writing was still "missing the people and events, the old homeland, and the books I have read."

This book is divided into four volumes. "Talking about the City" describes the hometown Penang that is lingering in the soul, "Talking about People" details the people and events that are always in mind, and "Miscellaneous Notes" and "Miscellaneous Memories" are filled with the clouds, moon and the fragrance of books along the way, which are all the flavors of the diverse talents and emotions.

Mei Shuzhen

Born in Penang in 1949, his ancestral home is Taishan, Guangdong.
He graduated from the Department of Commerce of Tunku Abdul Rahman College in Kuala Lumpur in 1974 and worked as an accountant and company secretary.
In addition to writing poetry, he also writes novels, essays, miscellaneous articles and translations.
He has been writing continuously since 1966 and has published over three million words. From 2015 to 2022, he published a novel serialized in Guangming Daily. From 1983 to 1985, he served as editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine Jiao Feng.
He has written the poetry collection "Mei Poetry" (1972), the prose collection "Human World" (1985) and "Past and Present" (2021), and co-translated with Mu Lingnu the poetry collection "Mekong River" (1973) by Malay poet Radif, and the collection "Selected Essays of Rhinoceros" (1976).
