A New Story of Zhang Baozai, the Raging Sea Thief—What defines friend or foe? How do we advance or retreat? How can we save the world?
Hong Kong writer Lin Yu and the original cartoonist of "Rope Angle" Cao Zhihao,
This epic graphic novel recreates the legendary tale of Hong Kong's pirates.
"One Piece" is a story about the thief Zhang Baozai who fights against the strong and helps the weak. It is a violent aesthetic version of "One Piece".
Why was Zhang Baozai, a man outside the law, praised as a hero by the people?
In a corrupt and dark age, the only people who could stand up for themselves seemed to be pirates, often labeled "evildoers." In the pirate world of "1801," justice and profit constantly clash. The Seven Flags of South China pirates are allies, yet they also engage in scheming for territory. Later, the Red Flag pirates, led by Cheung Po Tsai, rose to prominence, prompting the Qing government to even ally with foreign powers in an attempt to suppress them.
On this turbulent sea journey, Cheung Po Tsai, the pirate king, rises from a humble fisherman's son to settle in Hong Kong. He witnesses iconic South China naval battles and life-or-death duels, experiences betrayal, compromise, betrayal, jealousy, hatred, and experiences the good and evil of human nature. Despite these constant tests, Cheung Po Tsai remains unwaveringly loyal.
Hong Kong writer Lin Yu and Hong Kong cartoonist Cao Zhihao have collaborated on "One Hundred and One" to recreate the legendary story of Zhang Baozai's dominance in the South China Sea in a passionate and orthodox comic style.
"Hong Kong is a coastal city, so when writing martial arts stories, the vast ocean is always a better choice than the northern desert. Cheung Po Tsai is a very important figure in Hong Kong history, and he is also a very malleable subject. He can be portrayed in different ways in different literary works, film and television works, and even games, telling different stories."
